NST SNAPSHOT: Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6 Lambda Pulleys!

SEMA 2010: Hyundai Genesis on display; sporting a set of prototype NST pulleys.

If you read our SEMA 2010 recap, you may remember us hinting at new pulleys in development for the Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6 Lambda engine.  Here’s a bit more info to wet your appetite.

Prototype NST Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6 Pulleys

The NST Lite series is a designation used for pulleys that are light-weight versions of their OEM counterparts. All NST pulleys are built using High quality 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum and are roughly 70% lighter than steel or cast iron OEM pulleys.

The NST Lite series is designed for owners looking to reduce weight and increase the throttle response of their engines. These OEM-diameter pulleys will neither underdrive nor overdrive the associated accessories, yet lead to great throttle response and improved horsepower numbers in many applications.

Each NST kit is carefully crafted from 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum, tested and balanced to high tolerances. Every NST pulley is hard anodized for exceptional durability and is great for use at the track or on the street. Available in your choice of color: Red or Graphite Gray.

Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6 Expected Release:  spring of 2011.
Hyundai Genesis 2.0T pulleys will follow in the summer of 2011.

NST @ XDC Round 5, Texas Motor Speedway; Photo Coverage!

When we first got word of the XDC national tour almost a year ago, we were all excited to see a Texas date.  We’re very accustomed to traveling the country for national events and are used to thousands of miles of travel per year, but we won’t lie, we felt we were overdue for a national event date in our backyard.  OK, so it wasn’t in the greatest city in the Lonestar State (HOUSTON) but it would do!  We were stoked!!!

As the NST staff rolled into Dallas Friday morning, we were greeted with massive rain clouds.  This would not be good.  The weather finally started to clear up a bit Saturday afternoon, and the competition rounds provided some great driving and a few surprizes.

OK, enough reading… you want photos, don’t you?  Follow along here in chronological order.

NST Service Garage Feature; Warren’s AE86 Corolla

Warren brought his black AE86 Corolla hatch to the NST Service Garage for some work this past week.  While the car looks great and has a lengthy list of performance modifications, it needed a good amount of work to be ready and reliable for daily and/or track use.

In Warren’s own words:  “I’m 27 now and I just turned 18 when I met my very good friends Jack, Rocky, and Jimmy who introduced me to the AE86 and all that stuff through VHS Hot Versions, etc. I bought two corollas a few months later and never looked back.  As hard and expensive as it is to own these and do them the right way, I never gave up on  it or wanted to sell it… “

NST AE86 (8-6) Weekend Recap; Part Two…

Our guest blogger for this series, Thaison, and his blue Hachi Roku!

Honestly, I don’t know why I haven’t celebrated 8-6 day in the past.  How long have I had my Corolla?  About 4 years now.  But  for some reason…I never celebrated the festival.  What I do know is that I’m VERY glad I partook in it this year!

So NST Mike first told me about this masterplan back at the 512Project event.  We were sitting in the shade just off the blistering track where the event was being hosted.  He asked me if I could keep a secret.  “Of course…”  He told me about his plans of a TRI-CITY meet for August 6th, 8-6 day.  Houston -> San Antonio -> Austin.  I thought it was the most genius plan I’ve ever heard.

We do it big in Texas!

Fast forward a month and some odd days later.  What was the plan?

–          8/6: Cruise from NST down to S.A. to the Four Points Hotel.

–          8/7: Go to the Street Havoc Event at the Freeman Collesium/AT&T Center and watch the NST drift Demo.

–          8/8: Cruise up to Austin, eat some delicious food at Pho Thaison, hit up the twisties, and everyone heads home.

Action packed weekend? Ohhhh yeah!

Sadly I missed the Day 1 cruise from Houston down to San Antonio.  But I made up for it with the next two days!

NST Blog Feature: The Punisher’s X!

A few months ago (click here to get caught up)  we asked our blog readers to send in short stories/entries regarding their projects.  We received a few good entries and it’s time to shed the spotlight on one of the best ones!

We’ll start with Mickey Le’s TRD Supercharged Toyota XRunner:

Toyota 1GR TRD Supercharger Pulley Upgrade, +20WHP, +25WTQ!

The Toyota X-Runner community is a cool bunch. These guys and girls love their trucks, and they love to modify them. One of the more popular big power adders is the TRD Supercharger. Rated at 6psi the TRD SC adds a very noticeable kick to the truck’s rear-end and makes the 1GR engine much more responsive. We wanted to see if we could improve on an already great modification, while keeping the 1GR streetable and dependable.
