I’ll offer up my .02 real fast since I had these put on last Saturday. Woke up around 8:00 am and set out for the short 3 hour trip to Houston to pick up the parts and have them installed. I wanted the install done by them since these were their parts and all. On the way out though, I pulled over and took a quick video of how well the car reved up in neutral after it had time to get up to operating temperatures. Did a few quick pulls before continuing on… The things I noted are: -Pulleys did free up some power. -No change in sound from the engine or anything. Everything sounds just fine. -The stock pulleys are HEAVY!!!! My goodness they were heavy in comparison… -Revmatching is a bit easier. -IMPROVED GAS MILEAGE!!!!!! I want to call special attention to this last one because I really feel that it is often overlooked when people discuss modificatioins to any vehicle and it really frustrates me because I am a stickler for maximizing the efficiency of a system, in this case the engine. When I set out Saturday morning and got on the open road I reset the in car instrument that records average MPH and average MPG and drove very conservatively, trying to maximize my MPG. I originally planned to fill back up once I got to Houston and get a hard figure, but they unplugged my battery and it erased my trip numbers (o the joys of the digital age). However, the in car instrument showed a solid 27 mpg for most of the trip. Just for reference, the stated highway mileage is 26 mpg. Post pulley install, I filled back up, reset the in car instrument and hit the open highway driving the same way. On the return trip I recorded a solid 29 mpg and verified it after getting home and filling the tank back up. That is a solid 2 mpg increase or a 7.4% increase in gas mileage which is IMHO, pretty substantial. I will be keeping a close eye on the coming weeks to see if I get similar results under normal driving conditions. As an aside, there was a section of driving where the speed limit was 55 mph for probably 5 minutes of time with pretty even terrain. Before the pulleys, I was seeing around 28.5mpg and after the pulleys I was seeing around 31 mpg, or about 9% increase in mpg.

I had this full pulley kit installed on my wife’s 2006 G35 coupe and instantly noticed a difference in its drivability. It now has quicker throttle response, better acceleration, smoother movement throughout the power band and is overall more fun to drive. Very impressed with the kit. The car has always had power, but more is always better. Wishing we had installed this kit a long time ago. Props to NST for making a quality set up that is easy on the pocketbook.
– Thomas  (Infiniti G35)

I had my pulleys installed ~10k mi. Currently about to hit 55k (N/A), and zero problems from either crank/alternator pulleys.
– Chris  (Nissan 370Z)

That’s my car in the video years ago! Based from experience these pulleys are well worth the money. Does everything it says it does. Easy installation (depending on car and mechanical knowledge). I’ve had the NST Pulley on my tC for about 4 years/40k miles and that was with about 20k miles of having it turbo charged. After that I bought some for my 370Z and what a difference it makes! When installing correctly and using NST products you won’t have any issues!
– Josh  (Nissan 370Z)

Pulleys are in!! Nissan Master Tech “Chuck” did a great job. He said he lowered the front sway bar to access them. He had it done in about an hour (that included a ester oil change)….As far as Reviews, Chuck at Nissan said everything went smooth and he really liked the quality of the pulleys….those factory pulleys feel like 10lb weights!!! Drove 5 miles home and got on it twice and seem to feel a bit quicker revs in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd….Also some others complained about wine or noise….I could hear nothing and seems just as smooth as factory or better…(maybe Nissan Techs have a special sheet on how to install and remove pulleys?) Overall im very pleased!!!

I’d like to weigh in on my experience with your pulley for the tc2. I have had mine installed for 140,000 out of my cars 200,000 miles and it has been great! no squeaks, no leaks, no shredded belt, it does exactly as you claim. Hell the only reason I remember I installed the pulley any more is when I pop my hood to check/change my oil i see your shiny red crank pulley. Great product NST, and if i ever purchase a pulley or pulleys for any of my future vehicles you guys will be my first search.
-talt2008  (Scion tC)

After driving for a little while I’m now at around 23.3mpg where as before I was getting 19.9-21.2, definitely a gain in responsiveness and a much better feel when getting to higher rpms.
– Errikos  (Scion tC)

Had the pulley for 3k miles and then drive across the country(another 3K) in 2 days and everything is just fine. no leaking or vibrations.
– Scion202  (Scion tC)

I ordered the pulley on Friday, it got here on Monday morning and was installed this morning. Easy installation, no weird noises, no vibration, and feels great! Glad I bought it. There is a very noticeable difference in weight and I can feel a small increase in engine response and power in higher RPMs. Worth the money.

I’ve been running the three piece kit on my daily drifter over the last 3 years with no problems. Shiniest bits in my engine bay for sure.
– Ryan  (Scion FRS)

Ordered last Friday and installed a week later. Its amazing how heavy the stock pulleys are compared to these things. I can’t say I can feel any HP changes but the throttle response and smoothness is entirely worth the money. Install is cake and really quick if you don’t have to pull off all the stock intake. I would recommend.
– Zane  (Scion FRS)

So I went on a 300+ mile drive. I’m pretty sure I have gotten an increase in fuel mileage. My average had been 28.2 for the longest time. It has climbed to 28.5 since Thursday.
– CUS  (Scion FRS)

As for the pulleys and how they perform, I’d say they work pretty well. The effects are subtle (no giant HP gains), but definitively there. The car feels smoother taking off, and just in general especially with in town driving. Probably the biggest noticeable effect right away is down low in the RPM’s in the torque dip, and when wringing it out up high.

Do Lightweight Aluminum Pulleys FREE Horsepower?

NonStopTuning Toyota JZ Pulleys & Cam Gears

NonStopTuning Toyota JZ Pulleys & Cam Gears

We’ve all heard it before, “Do lightweight aluminum pulleys free horsepower? Do they make your car faster?  Are they really worth it?” At NonStopTuning we’ve been designing and testing pulley kits of various types for the past decade, and have posted our results on various outlets.  We’ve decided to consolidate these results into one post, with several links, for your review.

Why are NST pulleys a popular choice for many of our customers?

Crank pulleys, attached to the outside of the crankshaft, are the source of power for a car’s accessories. The alternator, power steering, water pump, and air conditioner are all belt driven units, attached to the crank pulley, that use horsepower from an engine to provide their own services. Underdrive pulley systems increase an engine’s horsepower by reducing the power required to drive the external engine accessories. By replacing factory pulleys with carefully resized units, the accessories are slowed enough so that their performance does not suffer, but just enough so that more horsepower is sent to the wheels and put to the ground. Where horsepower should be.

Normally, underdrive pulleys like the units found at NonStopTuning will increase engine output by 10 to 12 horsepower, with even better power levels yielded from turbo models than seen in naturally aspirated engines. This increase results in quarter-mile time and road course lap improvements, easily making this modification one of the best “bang for your buck” modifications for any sport compact car.

Another great benefit in replacing factory pulleys with NST units is reduced weight. Factory units, also referred to as OEM, are generally constructed from steel or cast iron. Pulley systems like those found at NST are constructed of aircraft quality aluminum, making them extremely durable while at the same time much lighter than their steel counterparts. This weight reduction (aproximately 70%) results in less rotating mass on the engine’s crankshaft which drastically increases the engine’s ability to rev to speed faster.

Better throttle response, better horsepower and torque delivery, and better fuel economy can all be had when using NST pulleys.

DYNO TESTING AND LINKS TO DATA:

All dyno testing performed by third party installers and dyno operators.  Baselines and pulley dynos all performed on the same dyno, on the same day, with no other modifications.  All test cars were “bone stock” models.

The Shift UP in Both HP & TQ is Awesome!

The Shift UP in Both HP & TQ is Awesome!

Conclusion?  In a nutshell, YES, lightweight aluminum pulleys do free power and torque.

The dyno charts consistently prove that lightweight pulleys improve power, torque, and response across the entire power band. If you look at the area under the power and torque curves you will notice positive gains in the low, mid, and high range when an NST Pulley Kit is used. No other modification in the same price range can offer similar gains across the entire power band.

NST 10th Anniversary through Strange eyes!

NST 10th Anniversary

NST 10th Anniversary

NonStopTuning hit double digits in 2015, we’re finally TEN!  Things have definitely come a long way in a decade, the landscape of enthusiasts and motor sports has certainly changed, especially the young sport of drifting that we’ve grown up with, from infancy to its ever evolving current status as a professional sport.

Media, photography, and video has certainly changed during this decade as well.  Leaps and bounds have been made in this industry since the introduction of social media, handheld video cameras, and smart devices.  Take any of these items back just a decade and the masses would have called you “strange.”  But strange is good, especially when it has rhythm.  That’s what this post is about; the NST 10th Anniversary event as seen through the eyes of a young photographer and car enthusiast, well versed in the art of photography, social media, and blogging.

Check out his recap and photo gallery (over 400 pics) here: STRANGE RHYTHMS BLOG
