2010 NST Driver Q&A: Chelsea DeNofa

Over the next few weeks we will bring you a new series called, 2010 NST Driver Q&A.  This session is with our good friend, and 2010 NST Driver, Chelsea DeNofa.  Chelsea is one of the most energetic and accomplished drivers in Texas, and has a great deal of experience in drift series such as XDC, D1GP, and NOPI.  Enjoy!

How long have you been driving?  What types of competitive driving? How long have you been a drifter?
Since the start of my racing career in 2002 I have had my hands in several forms of automobile racing. I started drifting in 2002; I was only 14 at the time, so my Mom had to drive my 91′ 240sx to the track for me. In 2004 I extended my driving abilities through schooling in Road-Racing and Stunt-Driving. Continuing along my road-racing path I was granted an SCCA pro racing license in 2005 and drove Spec Miata. When my focus turned back to the exploding sport of drifting in 2006, I had one thing on my mind, driving as much as possible. I hit nearly every drifting event on the east coast and the majority of pro events throughout the States. Later on I got to drive Internationally in Japan and Bermuda. Throughout the years I have been granted every professional drifting license; Nopi Drift, D1GP USA, D1GP Japan, XDC, and Formula Drift.

What was the first car you ever bought?  Why did you choose that car and how long did you own it?
My first car was an 84′ Alfa Romeo Spider. It was actually given to me by my dad. I did some work on it and wound up trading it a year later for a Jeep that I sold immediately at auction to buy my Miata. First drift car was a 91′ 240sx coupe.

Tell us about your current drift car and its setup?  Future plans for the car?
My current car is a 1999 BMW M3. It has a 3.2L S52 Technica Motor sports turbocharged engine that runs flawlessly on pump gas. It’s held to the ground with BC Racing coilovers, Level7tune suspension arms and steering parts, and Nexen Tires. I cannot stress the level of radness this car is at. Other then retiring the original 200k mile motor, I changed the oil 2 times, added some gear oil to the driveline, and spent a total of $437 on parts… All year. That is not a joke. 25 events and 41 days of driving. Future plans will be a new car for 2011 race season, and maybe a hoopdee tandem bomber for the Lone Star Drift Series.

Will Parsons had one of his best events of the XDC season at the October finale in Phoneix, Arizona.  Parsons’ number 4 qualifying spot was the highest of the XDC season for any Toyota, and he joined a list of only a handful of drivers who received an Insane Entry Award this season.  Read the full recap on his blog… http://wp.me/pWMF0-22

2010 NST Driver Q&A: Aaron Losey

Over the next few weeks we will bring you a new series called, 2010 NST Driver Q&A.  This session is with our good friend, and 2010 NST Driver, Aaron Losey.  Aaron is one of the oldest Texas drifters (one of the early adopters of the LS1 swap into an S chasis) and has a great deal of experience in drift series such as XDC, D1 USA, and NOPI.  Enjoy!

.

How long have you been driving?  What types of competitive driving? How long have you been a drifter?
I have been drifting since 2004, after my wife took me to watch a Formula D event in Houston for my birthday.  I had a blast and the sport looked approachable and really fun, so that week I went out and picked up an e36 M3 to drift at an upcoming Daily Drifter event.  Before all that I had a shifter kart, a trail jeep, and an Evo 8 I was planning to rally that was being used for auto-x.  I rode a bunch of motorcycles including my ZX-10.

What was the first car you ever bought?  Why did you choose that car and how long did you own it?
First car I ever purchased was my 1993 Jeep Wrangler.  I still have it, and it is a beast.  That was back in 1998 I think.

Tell us about your current drift car and its setup?  Future plans for the car?
My current drift car is a built S13 with a V8.  The car is fun, and has seen its share of abuse.  The car has been around for ever, and will probably be aroundnfor a lot longer.  It should be dragged out back and shot though.  I love her though: )

Xtreme Drift Circuit 2010 Season Finale; Phoenix, AZ.

The inaugural Xtreme Drift Circuit’s six-round 2010 schedule came to an exciting end in Phoenix Arizona on October 16, 2010, and the season finale was a big success, to say the least.  In its first season as the official national pro-am series for Formula Drift, the XDC has amassed a huge following in a realitively short period of time and has set itself apart from many of the series that have come and gone over the past few seasons.

The XDC is characterized by a mix of highly skilled pro and pro-am drivers, awesome road courses at large national venues, and a good number of enthusiastic spectators who recognize and cheer for their favorite drivers at each event.

NST drivers, staff, and fans all gathered for a team photo

NST GREEN TEAM

NonStopTuning was proud to campaign the largest team in XDC this season.  With the four cars of Chelsea DeNofa (BMW M3,) Aaron Losey (LS1 S13,) Will Parsons (4AG AE86,) and Joshua Steele (SR20 S13,) NST made consistent Top16 showings at each event.  Consistently qualifying in the top half of the field, entering with some of the highest speeds at each track, and picking up Insane Entry awards, the NST drivers were a force to be reckoned with throughout the season.

The season came to a glorious close for NST, as Chelsea DeNofa clinched the series title with a podium finish in Phoenix, and was crowned the first ever XDC series KING!  This was no easy task as the likes of FD and D1 liscenced drivers such as Doug Van Den Brink, Forest Wang, Cyrus Martines, Jeff Jones, and many more would have to be battled with throughout the season.  DeNofa was consistently on top of his game and earned his spot at the top as a result of much hard work and dedication.

NST was one of very few teams to follow the national tour from start to finish, the only team with multiple drivers reaching the Top 16 tandem rounds at every event, and the only team to campaign with multiple chassis in the series.

Chelsea DeNofa 2010 XDC Champion

“I had an awesome time traveling and driving in the XDC this year,” said DeNofa afterwards. “With the gnarly road courses, drivers that bring the heat, and great fan attendance, XDC was the place to be. I’d like to thank Secret Services Auto, Technica Motorsports, Nexen Tires, NonStopTuning, BC Racing, Sideways Vinyl, and S-Max Intercoolers for their support this season. I also have to send big props to my girlfriend Kaitie, my crew Sticks, Ethan, my mom, and the whole NST Team! Look out for us next year for sure!”

From all of us at NST, we would like to extend a huge thanks to the XDC for making this a very exciting season, and  many thanks to our great friends and fans for their help and support throughout the year.  Stay tuned everyone!

Rain or shine, Katie is always ready to go!
